Mr. Abdul Hai Sarker, a Founder Member of the Board of Trustees of the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI), has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Institute for a two-year term commencing on 8 September 2026.

Mr. Sarker completed his Post-Graduation (M.Com.) from the University of Dhaka in 1970. He subsequently entered international trade and business and established himself as a prominent industrialist in Bangladesh. His entrepreneurial vision and dynamic leadership contributed to the growth of Purbani Group into one of the country’s leading business conglomerates. He currently serves as Chairman and CEO of several companies under the Group, including Shohagpur Textile Mills Ltd., Purbani Synthetic Spinning Ltd., Purbani Fabrics Ltd., Karim Textile Ltd., Karim Spinning Mills Ltd., Purbani Yarn Dying Ltd., Purbani Agro Processing Ltd., Purbani Rotor Spinning Ltd., Semicentennial Textiles Ltd., and Purbani Fashion Ltd.

With decades of leadership experience in Bangladesh’s banking and business sectors, Mr. Sarker is the Founder Chairman of Dhaka Bank PLC and currently serves as its Chairman. He also serves as Chairman of the Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB). He is a former President of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), having served in that capacity for four terms, and a former Director of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).

Mr. Sarker is also a Founder Trustee and former Chairman of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and currently serves as Chairman of the Education, Science, Technology and Cultural Development Trust (ESTCDT). He has also served as an Associate Director of the International Cotton Association (ICA), Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Beyond his corporate and institutional leadership, Mr. Sarker has remained actively engaged in social welfare and community development. His contributions to business, industry and society have earned him numerous recognitions, and he has been accorded Commercially Important Person (CIP) status by the Government of Bangladesh.
