Leadership Development involving Trade Unions and Labour Leaders in Reform Agenda

Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) in cooperation with Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS) is implementing a project under the title “Leadership Development Involving Trade Unions and Labour Leaders in Reform Agenda”. The objective of the project is to contribute to socio-economic development of Bangladesh through leadership development among the labour leaders within the trade unions under the reform agenda. The Royal Danish Embassy, Dhaka has extended financial support for the Project. Mr. Farooq Sobhan, President and Dr. Monwar Hossain, Project Director of BEI are working for the Project on behalf of BEI.

South Asia Regional Integration Program

Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) in cooperation with IFC-BICF is implementing a project under the title South Asia Regional Integration Program. The primary objective of this program is to determine the ways and methods to increase regional integration and assist the region to realize the opportunities presented by its market. The program looks into the areas of bilateral and multilateral cooperation among the four South Asian nations; Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal. The program also involves conducting gap analyses, evaluations and identification of practically achievable objectives among the following broad categories: Promote unilateral and multilateral trade liberalization; Trade facilitation; Harmonization of standards and policies; Product safety and quality standards; Trade in services and Cooperation in infrastructure.

Business Trends Survey

Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) is undertaking a Business Trends Survey in collaboration with Centre for Policy Dialogue and International Financial Corporation Bangladesh Investment Climate Fund (IFC-BICF), a branch of the World Bank Group.

The survey will gather mostly qualitative information on business confidence from manufacturing and services companies along several quantifiable dimensions, including past performance, current performance and expected future performance in the short term. Outcome of the survey will be analyzed and reports published based on the outcomes which will be disseminated.

Assessments will be made in order to monitor the current business situation in the country and predict short-term developments. The assessment will also address the state of the Private Sector and provide indications about turning points in the business cycle and any possible deeper problems that can be analyzed further. Utilizing the results of the survey, BICF will seek to aid the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) how businesses perceive the business environment in the country and what effect these perceptions may have on their investment decisions. The outcomes will also provide the GoB with evidence on how well specific reforms or initiatives such as the Bangladesh Better Business Forum are working. This information can be utilized to fine-tune existing initiatives and/or develop new ones to promote the Private Sector in Bangladesh.
