A two-day long Training of Trainers programme on NGO Governance for the member NGOs of the Federation of NGOs of Bangladesh (FNB) was jointly organized by the BEI and FNB Dhaka District at the BEI conference room on January 29 – 30, 2008.

The objective of the programme was to build trainers, who would be able to increase the awareness level on the NGO Governance issues at the grassroots level NGOs, as well as, medium and small NGOs all across the country

Mr. Safi Rahman Khan, NGO Consultant, BEI, Mr. Zahidul Islam, an Account and Audit expert, Dr. Sharif Bhuiyan, Barrister, Dr. Kamal Hossain and Associates, facilitated the training programme.

The programme was inaugurated by Ms. Lopa Rahman, Project Director, BEI and Mr. Fakhrul Ferdous, Chair, FNB – Dhaka District, who made the welcome speech. Mr. Safi R. Khan discussed issues, such as, what NGO Governance is and why it is important; Stages of Board Development; Board Conduct and Leadership; Relationship between Board and Management; Mission and Vision; Conflicts of Interest; Board meetings and minutes writing. While The Legal Aspects of NGOs was presented by Dr. Sharif Bhuiyan. On day two Finance, Accounts and Audit Issues were broadly discussed by Mr. Zahidul Islam, an Accounts and Audit expert with fifteen years of hands-on experience on Accounting and Auditing issues.

 

The presentations were followed by an open floor discussion where all the participants got the opportunity to ask questions and share their experiences with the other participants as well as the resource persons. At the conclusion certificates of attendance were distributed among the participants of the two-day training programme.

 

The programme was attended by seventeen chief executives, chairpersons, executive directors, presidents and directors of different member NGOs of FNB Dhaka District.
