BEI-led Delegation's Visit to Singapore and Indonesia

A BEI-led team of four members, consisting of Mr. Humayun Kabir, Senior Research Director, BEI and Mr. Faiz Sobhan, Research Director, BEI, and two senior law enforcement officials from the Government of Bangladesh, undertook a very successful trip to Singapore and Indonesia from 13 to 18 June 2010.  The objective of the visit to both countries was to learn the successes of the Counter-Terrorism strategy adopted by both countries. 

The delegation had a number of meetings with senior government officials and counter-terrorism experts from both Singapore and Indonesia.  In Singapore, the delegation also had a roundtable meeting organized by the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research (ICPVTR) of the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Nanyang University.   In Indonesia, the delegation had meetings with the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC), in Semarang.  The delegation also met with Brigadier-General Tito Karnavian, head of the Special Detachment 88, the elite anti-terrorism force of the government, and with Nahdatul Ulama, in Jakarta, one of the largest independent Islamic organizations in the world.
