A Roundtable on Bangladesh in the 21st Century: Outcome of the Harvard Conference and the Way Forward

Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) is organizing a roundtable on Bangladesh in the 21st Century: Outcome of the Harvard Conference and the Way Forward to be held on Tuesday, August 05, 2008 from 03:30pm to 5:30pm at the BEI Conference Room.

The objective of the seminar is to disseminate the recommendations made during the ‘Conference on Bangladesh in the 21st Century’ co-hosted at Harvard on 13 June to 14 June 2008 by Bangladesh Development Initiative, Democracy and Development in Bangladesh Forum and The Ash Institute for Democratic Governance & Innovation, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

Professor Saad Andaleeb, Pennsylvania State University, who was one of the organizers of the conference, will do a power point presentation on the recommendations adopted by the six working groups at the conference. Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice Chancellor, BRAC University, Professor Rounaq Jahan, Columbia University, Mr. Matiur Rahman, Editor, Prothom Alo, Mr. Mamun Rashid, CEO, Citibank NA, Mr. Mahbub Hossain, Executive Director, BRAC and Mr. Ifty Islam, Managing Partner, Asian Tigers Capital Partners are expected to attend the roundtable as discussants.

A two-days Seminar on Impact of Globalisation and Economic Reforms on the Industry & Labour Market in Bangladesh: Position and Role of Trade Unions of Khulna Region

Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) and Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies(BILS) supported by the Royal Danish Embassy are jointly organising a two-day seminar on Impact of Globalisation and Economic Reforms on the Industry & Labour Market in Bangladesh: Position and Role of Trade Unions under the Leadership Development Project from August 30 to August 31, 2008 at Purbanchal Dialogue Centre, 38, Iqbal Nagar, Khulna.

Mr. Md. Younusur Rahman , Divisional Commissioner, Khluna has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest in the seminar.

Mr. K. G. Moazzem, Research Fellow, Centre for Policy Dialogue, will be the keynote speaker of the seminar.

The objective of the seminar is to build the capacity of the trade union leaders of the country and to raise awareness on different reform agenda affecting the lives of working people, industry and economy of the country so that they become capable enough to face the challenges of globalisation. This will focus on different reform initiatives undertaken by the Government of Bangladesh and the best practices in the global arena.

Different trade union and labour leaders of Khulna Division will be the participants in the seminar.
